Whether you are having building work done or simply having a good old clear out, it is likely that you will need to hire a skip. However, people often don’t make the most of their skip during the skip hire period. Here are some tips on making the most of your skip.
Many skip hire firms hire out their skips for a specific period of time so it is important to make sure that during this time you are available to fill it. Ordering a skip when you will be at work limits the time available to fill the skip and is not making the most of your skip. Also, ordering a skip without thinking about what is going to be going into it will waste time. Decide what needs to go into the skip before it is delivered and if possible, get as much of it ready to go into the skip as you can.
One mistake that people make is not not making the most of the space available in the skip. Everything gets thrown in without any thought and this leaves a lot of unused space, even though the skip appears to be full. As a result, you may find that you have things left over that won’t fit into the skip and you will need to ring the skip hire company for a second skip to be delivered. It is best to pack flat items down the sides and on the bottom of the skip. Another tip is to break things into smaller pieces as these can be slotted between the gaps.
A final tip is to think about where the skip will go. Ideally, it should be close to the door of your home if you are filling the skip with items from inside the house, or close to the area where the building work is being done if you are filling it with debris and rubble. Choosing where your skip will go can save a lot of time and effort in the long run.

As the big day approaches, the scheduling and executing part of your wedding plans starts to get more difficult and overwhelming. Details such as hiring a photographer, arranging the caterers and hiring entertainment bands can be nerve-wracking experiences.
Having one of your favourite wedding bands at the reception can make you feel even more special. However, choosing the perfect band can be a bit of a pickle itself. Keep the following tips in mind when choosing one:
1. Make sure the band you choose has a good reputation, and is experienced at playing at weddings in particular. If possible, ask for a few references and ask for feedback from couples whose weddings the band has played at in the recent past. If you have enough time, it would be great if you could see the band perform at a wedding or any other event before you sign a contract with them.
2. Visit the selected band’s website to get an idea of their quality and level of professionalism. Experienced bands usually have feedback posted on their website, which makes it easier to find their previous clients for references. You can get also get an idea of their repertoire.
3. You may not be fond of some of the world-famous bands, since preference in music varies from individual to individual. In that case, there would be no point in hiring even the most expensive and well-reputed band in your reach. Your choice of wedding bands for hire should primarily be based on your own taste and style of music that you prefer. Before the wedding day, you can request your band to provide you with a copy of their song list along with length of each song. You can then select the ones you specifically like, and cross out the ones you don’t want played at the wedding.

Begin by assessing the seller. Who would you trust more, somebody with a name and an address, who shows you the car outside his house, or a bloke who offers to meet you in the local car park, and has forgotten to bring the registration document with him? Buying a car is a business transaction, so don’t be afraid to ask for ID, proof of ownership and contact details.
Does the car look good? Dents, scratch marks, and scuffed wheels suggest that it has been driven badly, increasing the chances of faults and prematurely worn-out parts. Thick mud along sills and in the wheel arches may be hiding rust and blistered paintwork too. Run a fridge magnet over the wheel arches – it won’t stick to hidden filler and fiberglass repairs.
Examine the tyres. If a new set of tyres is required, that will add to your costs. Barely legal tyres may suggest that the owners couldn’t afford to replace them; did they save money on the regular maintenance jobs such as checking radiator fluid and engine oil levels too? Ask to see receipts for services and MOTs, then read them carefully.
Open the bonnet and look for corrosion, loose wires, and other signs of neglect. Always check the colour of the engine oil. Thick black, gritty or milky white oil suggests serious engine problems. If the bodywork, wheels, engine compartment and tyres are OK, start it up and listen to the engine. It should be quiet, smooth and responsive.
Insist on a test drive, and check the brakes immediately after pulling away. If you are still happy after driving it, consider getting mechanic to check it too. If you buy it, get a signed receipt, and don’t pay until you’ve got the legal documentation.
Men are now starting to enjoy a trip to the spa as much as women. Although they not as concerned with the pampering aspects of a spa, the trip usually focuses on tension release and improving their appearance. While most men tend to avoid wraps, here are some of the most popular spa treatments for men.
Steam Rooms and Saunas

A good facial will help decrease shaving bumps and leave skin feeling refreshed. Microdermabrasion treatments are often added to the facial service. Microdermabrasion helps remove fine lines and scarring from acne to help improve the appearance of the skin.
Other treatments men receive at spas include basic maintenance care. Many men enjoy keeping up the appearance with manicures and eyebrow care. Taking care eyebrows and nails give men a more professional and kept appearance.

A blender has been a useful kitchen appliance for generations. Today’s blenders are equipped to operate with several speeds from low speed for coarser textures to highest speeds that create marvelous soups. Recipes abound for making soup with a blender. Some soup recipes are haute cuisine while others are perfect for busy cooks. These recipes include hot and cold soups.
How To Make Soup With A Blender
The first step to making soup with a blender is to be creative and plan the soup ingredients. Fresh ingredients are always favored over dehydrated substitutes. With ingredients for a hot soup, use a blender to create the soup base of stock, coarsely blended vegetables and fresh herbs and spices. Blenders perform feats of magic with meat pastes that can be frozen and added to soups as needed. Remember to debone meat before blending. When hot soup is desired, add stock and favorite vegetables to the blender for a smooth soup base. Transfer to a soup pot and add meat paste for extra flavor. The secret of using a blender for soup is to keep watch on blending time.
Cold Soups Are A Summer Delight
When the weather is too hot for a hearty soup, choose a variety of cold soups from spicy gazpacho to vichyssoise. Using a blender to prepare cold summer soup is a convenient way to prepare delicious meals with muss or fuss. Give cold curry squash soup a lift with a few sprigs of mint and dollop of creme fraiche. Children love cold summer soups made from their favorite fruits like strawberries, blueberries, plums, melon or mango. Blend the fruits with a dash of vinegar for a tangier flavor. When serving cold soups to adults, blend the fruits with a hint of fruity wine.
More than political correctness – why it pays to get to grips with equality issues in the workplace
If equality and diversity sounds to you like something big employers spend vast sums for expensive consultants just to create worthy papers about, you’re not alone. But hidden beneath the political posturing are real and tangible benefits for your business. And protection from costly discrimination in the workplace claims.
A workforce that reflects your market and the wider community is likely to be better placed to deliver your business objectives. And a company where every individual can fulfil their potential is a happy environment with the right people in the right jobs.
If you’re looking for measurable benefits from a robust approach to equality and diversity, think about how much absenteeism and recruitment have cost you this year. Wouldn’t it be nice to cut that?
And don’t overlook the astronomical costs if you fall foul of the law on this. The cost of defending discrimination in the workplace claims is high both financially and in terms of the time managers can spend dealing with grievances and tribunal claims. The hidden costs are equally damaging – low employee morale, bad publicity and high staff turnover.
What equality means in practice
Let’s get back to basics. Equality means creating a fair workplace where every staff member can participate and has the opportunity to fulfil their potential. It is backed by legislation designed to address discrimination, the most recent being the Equality Act 2010. Diversity means recognising and valuing difference in your workforce. But the two are not interchangeable – there is no equality of opportunity if difference is not recognised and valued.
Discrimination in the workplace is unlawful on the grounds of sex, marital status, race, disability, gender, sexual orientation, religion or belief and age. Additionally, regulations prevent part-time workers and fixed-term employees being treated less favourably than their full-time or permanent counterparts.
There is a lot of legislation to grapple with, but much of this has been harmonised in the Equality Act. But an up-to-date equality and diversity policy – one that is used and not left sitting on the shelf – is a good start. You could be extremely vulnerable should a discrimination case go to an employment tribunal if you don’t have such a policy. Try the Equality and Human Rights Commission website for advice on how to draw up a policy for your business.
Training is also a good idea. Even if you have policies to tackle discrimination at work, harassment, victimisation and bullying, if they are not implemented it is impossible to show you have taken all reasonable steps to avoid discrimination. Once again, tribunals take a dim view when HR managers and line managers aren’t up to speed with legal requirements.
To ensure your policy is robust, remember, discrimination is not always intentional. For example, a manager taking account of an employee’s absence record as part of a redundancy exercise and who counts time off for illness related to pregnancy is discriminating. A sex discrimination case could be brought against the company.
What’s the motive?
Motive is irrelevant in all discrimination at work cases. For instance, in a harassment case, an employer may argue that a manager did not intend to sexually harass a colleague. But the tribunal will examine whether their actions were clearly unwanted and whether a person of the opposite sex would suffer the same type of treatment.
Recruitment must also follow an equal opportunities procedure. Managers must be trained to interview and to keep written records. This will help in any subsequent discrimination claim and will also help you monitor the effectiveness of your diversity policy.
The Equality Act has introduced new legislation setting out what questions should and should not be asked as part of a pre-employment health questionnaire before a job offer. However, employers also have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to the interview process where a prospective candidate is disabled. Consequently, great care has to be taken to ensure all recruitment processes are absolutely up to date and compliant with equality laws.
Staying on top of legal changes will ensure you don’t unintentionally fall foul of new requirements. It will also enable you to positively discriminate where you have identified underrepresented groups in your workforce.
One of the newest provisions in the Equality Act 2010 is positive action in recruitment and promotion. This allows voluntary positive action to addresses under representation in your workforce where two or more candidates are of “equal merit” and “as qualified as” each other. Great care will be needed to properly apply the “equal merit” test. In addition, you will need to have done proper research to identify which groups are disadvantaged in terms of underrepresentation either as a whole or at a senior level.
The law is complex, so it pays to get it right from the start. The rewards in terms of reaching those customers and clients that your competitors have traditionally ignored could be huge.

Salary calculators basically translate an hourly wage and time worked into the equivalent of a salary or annual income. If you have never used a salary calculator before play around with one for a few minutes and get a different perspective on your job, work sector and earning potential.
Use it to compare your pay with other jobs. If you are looking for employment in your field of expertise or in another field, the calculator is a handy way to compare the rate of pay between jobs. Compare it to the median pay for your job title averaged across the country or measure the pay and extrapolate living expenses in various areas in the UK. If you are planning for the future, setting a reasonable hourly rate or negotiating your pay package, information is always a good ally.
Freelancers, contract workers and hourly wage earners may have trouble budgeting out their expenses because, unlike salaried workers, income can vary month by month depending on the work and hours they put into a job. Therefore calculators are great tools for planning your present and future earning potential in your career, show you how many hours you need to work to make ends meet, or how much overtime is worth in the long term.
Some salary calculators are more sophisticated and let you add in overtime or divide out your dependents to get a more accurate picture of the financial situation you have to work with. There are also simple salary charts that can be found online. If you have a range of time you can elect to devote to work and don’t want to plug in the figures, just match your hourly rate to the hours worked in a week or month, and compare it to the other wage and hours-worked combinations.
